Lioness Collar Replacement in Niassa Special Reserve

In a recent operation within the Niassa Special Reserve, a lioness received a new collar, ensuring her continued monitoring and protection. This mission was carried out in partnership with ANAC and the Niassa Carnivore Project.

The Niassa Carnivore Project is a long-standing initiative focused on conserving large carnivores, particularly lions, within the reserve. The program plays a vital role in monitoring predator populations, mitigating human-wildlife conflict, and conducting research to understand the behavior and ecology of these magnificent animals. Collaring lions is a key part of this work, as it allows us to track their movements, assess their health, and implement strategies to reduce conflict with local communities.

Collar replacements, like the one recently undertaken, are essential for maintaining accurate data and ensuring the safety of both the lions and the people living in and around the reserve. With the continued support of the Lion Recovery Fund, these efforts are helping to secure a future for lions in one of Africa’s most significant wilderness areas.
