Successful Collaring and Treatment Mission in Coutada 11

We are excited to share the achievements of MWA’s recent five-day mission in Coutada 11, undertaken as part of the Zambeze Delta Conservation's Carnivore Monitoring Program, in partnership with ANAC.

During this mission, our team successfully collared four lionesses and two lions. Collaring these magnificent animals is crucial for tracking their movements, understanding their behaviors, and ensuring their protection within the ecosystem. This effort aids in the long-term conservation of these species and helps maintain the balance within their natural habitat.

A key highlight of our mission was the assessment and treatment of an injured cheetah. The cheetah had sustained a wound on its left forelimb, likely from a fight with another animal. As this species is being reintroduced into the Zambeze Delta Complex, it was essential to address the injury promptly to ensure the success of the reintroduction process. Our veterinary team darted the cheetah to examine and treat the wound, ensuring that it can recover and thrive in its new environment.

This mission would not have been possible without the collaborative efforts of ANAC and the Zambeze Delta Conservation team. Their support and partnership are invaluable in our shared goal of conserving the carnivores of Central Mozambique.
