Tracking Giants: Elephant Bulls Collared in Incomati Conservancy

Recently, our team partnered with ANAC, Incomati Conservancy and BioFund to collar three elephant bulls with VHF/GPS trackers. This operation is crucial for gaining better insights into their movements and ensuring the safety of both these gentle giants and local communities. It’s all about managing human-wildlife conflict and making sure these incredible creatures can roam freely for years to come!

So, how does the collaring process work? Our wildlife vets dart from a helicopter, carefully sedating each bull. Once the elephants are down, our team quickly fits the collars, conducts health checks, and ensures the bulls are in good shape. After everything is set, we revive them and watch as they stride back into the wild.

These collars are game-changers—they provide real-time updates on the elephants' movements, enabling us to make informed wildlife management decisions and promote safer coexistence for everyone involved.

By tracking these bulls, we’re laying the groundwork for a future where elephants and people can share the same space without stepping on each other's toes.
